The Dance Plan is our opportunity to think more ambitiously about the whole North West ecology and a vision led strategy to grow that ecology. It recognises that the North West sector has a tableau of advantages and challenges that make it unique in the dance and cultural landscapes. Not least of which is a history of working together and a desire to invest in constant improvement and the ecology in which dance operates.
This plan is an ethos and a manifesto, affirming a vision for the future of dance in the North West, and a document to coordinate action to advance dance, audiences and impact.
The plan is illustrated with a ‘map’ which lays out the pillars of Dance in the North West and the changes that can move the sector into a new level.
TALENT
Talent is the sum of the skill, creativity, commitment and enthusiasm that makes dance possible. This pillar recognise that talent is developed and shared in a wide range of informal and formal ways, from young children who dance to music before they can name it as music to adults who have trained professionally for many years.
TRADE
Trade encompasses the range of enterprise that keeps the mechanisms of dance running. A sector that is filled with successful businesses and entrepreneurial dance artists requires strong administration, marketing and communication, finance, fundraising and audience development. It means a wide-spread capability to serve the art we produce through robust and forward-facing operations.
Trade also denotes the exchange of people, ideas and creativity that flows into and through dance in the North West.
ACCLAIM
Much like the standing ovation at the end of a show signals an outstanding performance, dance in the North West is built on its ability to have all of the elements of a successful sector plus an additional X factor which people recognise and celebrate. Acclaim is about making sure that people know about North West dance and that the dance sector is emphatic and outstanding.
The Dance Plan is for the whole of the sector and for the benefit of dance artists, choreographers, companies, venues, participants and audiences. Together, we are working to make sure that dance is thriving and valued across our region and beyond. This plan will be available in the coming months.
